About A1 Ace
A1 ACE Taxis was formed in August 2009, as a result of a merger between A1 Deane Taxis and ACE Taxis. A1 Taxis have been operating in Taunton for over forty years and ACE Taxis had been established for thirty three years.
The purpose of the merger was threefold. Firstly and most importantly was to create a business that provides good customer service. Secondly to provide better availability than when we operated as separate firms. Thirdly, to reduce wasted mileage which helps reduce our environmental impact.
We have managed to achieve all three objectives. With more vehicles on the road at any one time we are more likely to have a car in your area than the many smaller firms we compete against. When things go wrong it is easier for us to put them right.
It has also meant that the Independent drivers we work with have voted to run a fare structure that is below that used in other firms. For example we charge single time on a Saturday until 6pm, where as the majority of other Taxis charge time and a half. This means we are a third cheaper than the tariff set by the council, which most other Taxi firms run. The drivers took the view that Saturday is a normal working day now and therefore they would not charge the higher tariff.
